Children can ‘tell’ Artie 3000 how to create a picture, and he will draw it for them!

With Artie, children will use both sides of their brain to learn about geometry, shapes and programming combined with creativity, imagination and expression!

Using this little robot is so easy. Just connect your computer or tablet to Artie using his built-in wifi. He comes with apps that can be used from your device’s browser. There are 4 modes to play with Artie; pre-programmed shapes, games, art for colouring and freeform coding.

There are 6 different ways to code with Artie. For younger children, the ‘remote control’ mode allows kids to direct Artie using their mouse or the arrow keys to directly control Artie. The ‘point and click’ mode lets them click on the screen where they want Artie to move, Artie will then move to that relative point. These are both great for helping children understand directional instructions and the basics of how Artie works.

Once they’re confident, kids can progress to the main coding method, ‘Drag & Drop’, which shares its coding-by-block approach with Scratch. Kids can easily combine these code blocks on their screen to quickly create their very own program. Once children have written their program, they can debug it by running it through the code simulator to check there are no unexpected errors, just like a real programmer! Once written and tested, it’s ready to use. Artie will happily zip about following his coded instructions, drawing as he goes! Artie can move in 360 degrees, allowing curved paths to draw circles and ellipses. He can also be programmed to put his pen up and down, to create gaps in the drawing. The creative possibilities are endless.

Older or more experienced children can extend the learning further as Artie supports the use of more advanced programming languages such as Blockly, Python and even Javascript!

Please note Artie requires 4 AA batteries (not included) and a tablet or computer to connect Artie to. Check out the quick start video from Educational Insights to help get up and running straight away!
